Values

Volunteer EMS agencies struggle with a myriad of challenges that go beyond patient care. Chief among these are the more executive functions of an organization such as financial management and accounting, legislative affairs, and general and strategic operations. EMS Access wants to change the way in which volunteer EMS agencies operate and plan for success. We believe effective leadership is the key.

Many emergency medical technicians volunteer because they want to help their communities. They come from all walks of life and bring a multitude of academic, professional, and cultural experiences with them. However, aside from the practical and clinical training they receive, formal training about leadership and management of the organizations they join is lacking. They learn “on the job” from other EMTs who may have good intentions but may not be good leaders. Additionally, between volunteer turnover and annual elections, a volunteer with just a few years experience can suddenly be placed in charge of operations, administration, or even an entire organization.

EMS Access Inc wants to engage with the men and women responsible for running volunteer EMS organizations and turn them into better leaders and managers. With best practices from corporations inside and outside healthcare, EMS Access Inc is building a platform to help train the future of volunteer EMS.
